PSA Announces $200 Million Investment: What Collectors Need to Know

PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator), the world's leading trading card and collectibles authentication and grading service, has announced a significant $200 million infrastructure investment to be made over the next 18 months. This comes on the heels of a previous $100 million investment since 2021 and is aimed at keeping pace with the record-breaking growth in the hobby. Along with this investment, PSA has also announced updates to service level turnaround times and pricing, effective May 14, 2026.

Why the Investment?

Demand for PSA's grading services has grown dramatically over the past several years. In 2020, PSA graded approximately 2 million cards. By 2025, that number surpassed 19 million. Year-over-year grading output for January through April of 2026 increased by nearly 39%, putting collectors on pace to set yet another submission record. PSA acknowledges that despite its previous $100 million investment — which included opening new grading facilities in New Jersey, Tokyo, Florida, and Texas, and tripling its staff — the hobby's growth has outpaced its expansion.

Three Core Investment Pillars

The $200 million commitment is focused on three areas: Infrastructure (doubling PSA's physical footprint to handle greater volume), Technology (developing proprietary logistics and tracking technology for improved speed and accuracy), and Expertise (expanding the workforce with approximately 370 current open positions and 700 more set to open by end of 2026).

Updated Service Level Turnaround Times

Effective May 14, 2026, PSA is updating its estimated completion time ranges for new card grading submissions. These changes apply only to new submissions and do not affect orders already submitted, in transit, or currently in PSA's care. Times are now presented as ranges to better reflect operational capacity and market demand:

  • Value Bulk: 140–160 business days
  • Value: 100–120 business days
  • Value Plus: 60–80 business days
  • Value Max: 40–50 business days
  • Regular: 30–40 business days
  • Express: 20–30 business days
  • Super Express: 7–10 business days (price increasing from $299 to $349 per card)
  • Walk-Through & Higher: 5–7 business days

Collectors Club Update

Effective May 18, 2026, the minimum threshold for new Value Bulk submissions will increase to 50 cards. As a gesture of appreciation, PSA is extending active Collectors Club memberships by three months at no charge.

What This Means for Collectors

These are significant operational changes that collectors should factor into their submission planning. The updated turnaround time ranges are intended to provide more realistic expectations, and the $200 million investment signals a long-term commitment to maintaining grading quality while scaling capacity. PSA has stated it will not sacrifice quality for the sake of processing speed.
